Well, no one can force you, but you're missing out. The content is equal to Prophecies (if you actually do it...), the play improved and the new scenery quite nice. Easily worth the 50 imo. However, the doom-and-gloomers have ruined the experience for you, and for that I am sorry.

Haha, that is somewhat true, though it all depends on your addiction level. Now there are many variable in such a case, but let me tell you my story:
I'm in high school, and last year I had a 4.40 GPA. This year (I've been playing guild wars since ~a month after it came out), I have almost 900 hours and a 4.325 GPA (I had one B in an honors class). This doesn't seem like much, but I've noticed I've become extremely lazy as in: I always play gw after school now and I'm really annoyed if I don't have time in the night before bed to play gw. Basically, it hasn't appeared to affect me that much, but I swear I've become more lazy (but maybe it's just natural and has nothing to do with gw). However, gw does occupy almost all of my free time now when it used to be reading and playing drums mostly.
And oh yeah, I'm not that far in, but I'm enjoying Factions.

It is not school that keeps me from getting Factions. I am a full time athlete. I play cross-country, track, and football. Actually, I just blew out my knee, so I can't play football anymore, but I am still playing cross-country and track. I just don't have much time for Prophecies none the less Factions.

Bullshit...don't lie to him...the content is only half of GWP. Play improved?????, sounds like you haven't even play faction yet.

Actually, yes, you lie to him. I'm in the process of doing most every quest on my assassin and have finally made it to Cavalon, and this character started during the 24 hour pre-release. There's HUGE content! I've found that there are as many if not more quests to be found outside of the towns as there are obvious ones within the towns. So as for someone sounding like they haven't played Factions yet...
And yes, the play is improved. The quests are more challenging, the henches AI improved enough to make them interesting to run with, the rewards are better, the skill acquisition means is improved... all around, it's better than Prophecies.
No cookie for you.

I've played Factions to death over the past week since release and beat it a few days ago, and I can honestly say that it is absolutely nowhere near the level of Prophecies if we are going to compare the 2 as seperate games. There is just nowhere near as much content or variety in Factions. Now if you've already played Prophecies to death and are looking for an expansion to that, then sure it's worth it if you need more GW to burn some time on, as long don't go in expecting get as much out of it as the original like I was, and am therefore very dissapointed.
They basically sold Factions as a seperate game, and almost as a sequel, and there is just not enough here for it to be considered that. Understanding they will be coming out with one of these every 6 months, that's a good deal and am not complaining about that plan at all. I'll keep buying them. But the mistake they made was making us think this was this massive new game like the original, and it's really just not. It's really just an expansion that is the price of a full game, and can be played without the original. But honestly I feel bad for those that never played the original and bought this expecting something just like the original, when in fact it's not.
Overall, I am dissapointed in it's lack of depth and content, but am still satisfied now that i've beaten it and have come to realize this is nothing more than a standalone expansion and will be getting another in October.

I nearly didn't buy it, but I must say I'm enjoying Factions a lot. It is quite different from the first episode, quests are less boring and promotions happen fast.
I uninstalled Oblivion for Factions, so I guess I would say it is a better game.

Are there really going to be a new one every six months? Hearing that kind of makes me feel disappointed. I will feel like I wasted a bunch of money on a game when a new one comes out six months later.

1. It seems like a short time, but thats reallly long to me. Hell Ive only been playing GW for 5 months..
2. It will almost definately be longer than that, trust me.
And I think a lot of people missed the point here...there is nothing to be concerned about grade-wise, seeing as the OP has had GWP.
As for me, meh..I don't know. The sequel is almost never as good as the original (for anything) but GWF is still new to me to say whether or not its worth it. I can't count how many times GWP made me want to quit when I was still getting used to it..etc.

LOL Just a joke about grades people. I'm in college and my grades are fine after buying Factions. Just commenting on some peoples time commitment.
IMHO, Factions is great. I havent been able to play the game the whole way through yet like some of these other crazy super gamers, but im nearly off of the "pre-sear" island with my rit and just got "closer to the stars" with my Tyrian Character. If you go in expecting to much, you will be dissapointed, as many other poster's here are. I think it's a pretty decent game to spend my nights and weekends on.

There should be updates to Cantha within 6 months but a whole new game should come out next year. I think you should definetly get Factions after the summer, when you are free probably and working or something. Though x-mas might not bee too late to get Factions for you.
I love GW:Faction. I'm taking my time with it and I admit they do need to fix somethings in the game.
So keep it straight forward- Enjoy what you have now, just don't wait too long to get Factions. Besides even if you wanted to start the new professions the runes are expensive if you are not a rich player. If you wait to get the game later the prices would eventually go down.

Yes, factions is great... if you enjoy being forced to play every primary quest to continue to the next mission and being forced to do every mission. In factions there is No skipping. both good and bad. If you don't like playing the campaign with all your characters don't get factions.
However, now there are gold(money not weapons) awards in quests and missions. You actually make a little gold as you play the campaign. Also new skills give new possiblities. You also level much faster. You spend way more time as a level 20. This both makes it more challenging and more fun.
If you have no way to get the money for it now, get it when you someday get a way to make money. You may like it.

That all sounds good. My mom owes me $40, so I will do some chores for my dad and earn the rest and buy it real quick. Since I have the extra money, why not buy it?

Didn't you have something less important to uninstall, like... Microsoft Word?
I have a decent amount of time in Factions so far, and it's worth the purchasing price, IMO. Less grind to start off with, dive straight into tougher missions, et cetera. Not to mention the environment (before and after the city, that is) is very nice. City was forgettable, reminded me of postsear ascalon in many ways.

That is one of the main reasons I want to buy Factions, because of the scenery. I think the city idea is cool. It looked more oriental in the trailer.
